Recently the Rotary East of Ventura reached out to CAREGIVERS: Volunteers Assisting the Elderly to "make a difference" in the lives of our elderly who may need assistance beyond the norm of our regular services. Craig Miller, of SERVICE MASTER-CLEAN, Disaster Restoration and Construction Services and a Rotarian, forged a relationship with CAREGIVERS to spearhead projects especially for our clientele where skill and extra muscle can best be put to work.
Just days before, HELP UNLIMITED of Ventura had referred Curt, a 96 year old resident of Casitas Springs, to CAREGIVERS for help he was unable to afford. Curt lives alone, has mobility problems and other age related challenges but is surprisingly independent. Curt's initial dilemma was an inability to clean up his property for the fire season and he only had days to comply with the Fire Department.
The Rotary East of Ventura mustered Alison and Travis Thompson, Lori Peet, Bill Hicks, Jordan Eller, Ken Kagan, Husam Hishmeh, Nicki and Mark Sloan, Tom Hashbarger who under the direction of Craig Miller and his son Hunter sprang into action. They were joined by students from our "Building Bridges" program who included Skylar Johnson, Madaya Talmadge, Brandi Ruscher and Jesse Sherwood from Ventura High School and Kayelyn Powell from Foothill Technology High School. The old adage "many hands make light work" was exemplified with two acres of land cleared and a house thoroughly cleaned.
Curt now welcomes our student volunteers twice a month to help with his home maintenance issues. CAREGIVERS: Volunteers Assisting the Elderly welcomes this fine ongoing collaboration with Craig Miller and the Rotary East of Ventura Club.
